Ville di Stabia - Oplonti - Herculaneum (All Day Guide Included)

Your private driver will greet you at your accommodation (or Naples train station), after a brief presentation you will be accompanied to the luxurious vehicle where our staff will offer you every comfort you need. After that they will give you important information about the tour and the places that you are going to visit.

The eruption of the Vesuvius, that destroyed Pompeii, hit the city of Herculaneum too with a huge tsunami of dirt and lava. But unlike Pompeii, the city of Herculaneum preserved wooden buildings and any sort of goods. Therefore for archeological studies is a very important site. Sculptures, paints, vases and so on are now in the “Archeological Museum of Naples” and in the “Antiquarium”.Ancient tradition connected Herculaneum with the name of the Greek hero Heracles, an indication that the city was of Greek origin. There is, however, historical evidence that toward the end of the 6th century BC a primitive nucleus of Oscan-speaking inhabitants came under Greek hegemony there and that in the 4th century BC Herculaneum came under the domination of the Samnites. The city became a Roman municipium in 89 BC, when, having participated in the Social War (“war of the allies” against Rome), it was defeated by Titus Didius, a legate of Lucius Cornelius Sulla.

Sculptures, paints, vases and so on are now in the “Archeological Museum of Naples” and in the “Antiquarium”.

Our next two stops are small cities where there are archaeological sites as important as the previous one, even if they are less known.

The first one are the “Ville di Stabia”, located in Castellamare di Stabia, the town was once known as Stabia only. It was destroyed by the apocalyptic eruption of the Vesuvio of the 79, which hit Pompeii and herculaneum as well, and on the beach of Stabia the poet Plinio the old found the death due to his whish to look closer to the eruption. The town of Stabia was once known as a place where the “Patrizi” (The Rich romans) used to spend their holidays and where they had built numerous “Villas”. The archeological digging started on 1739, after the casual findings of several items. They are not as famous as the Pompeii or herculaneum ones but not for this reason they are less fascinating. The archaeologists have found not only the villas and other buildings, but even several paintings especially in the “Aquarium Stabium”. Enjoy the beauties of the Villas such as Villa Arianna, Villa San marco or the “Nuove Terme Stabiane”.

The second archeological site that you are going to visit is Oplonti in the city of Torre Annunziata near Naples. Even this city was hit by the famous eruptions. Inside you can find ancient buildings as Villa di Poppea,  named after the second wife of the Roman empereor Nerone, infamously known for being the emperor who spent his time singing while his empire was burning due to a huge fire. The villa is so called because of some items such a vase and some documents that allegedly belonged to the empress.

Take your time and visit this amazing archeological sites to witness the strength of history.

What a fab day with Giovanni touring the Amalfi Coast. He was knowledgeable, funny, prompt and accommodating. We learnt about the history of his country and traditions of family life. Giovanni’s vocals accompanying Andrea Bocelli in the car was a bonus. Giovanni made the day for us and I can’t rate the tour highly enough. You won’t find a better guide to show you the highlights of this beautiful region. We plan to stay in touch.

The best private tour experience ever! I booked the Naples-Pompeii-Lunch in Positano-Amalfi Coast experience so that it’s easier to get from Naples to Amalfi with my two friends. Melania (admin) was very prompt in answering my questions and made it super easy to book the tour. Our tour guide, Giovanni, was really courteous, friendly, informative and passionate about history! We learned so much about Italian culture and even made friends outside of the tour, through Giovanni! Couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide and entertaining car ride! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We went on a tour with Gio 6 years ago and have returned with our children to do some more of his tours! So informative and an amazing personality, takes the time to get to know his guests, could not recommend this more. We have been on the Private Amalfi Coast Tour, visiting Positano & Ravello today and had a great time. We are looking forward to our trip to Pompeii and Vesuvius next week. Hopefully the serenading continues!

Our family has been planning our trip to Italy for almost four years now, and we were very fortunate to have Giovanni as our tour guide on the Amalfi Coast. Giovanni has a great sense of his guests' interests and arranges the perfect pace for his trips. He is multi-talented - a gifted guide, a great singer (in at least three languages), and a spectacularly warm person. We will always send our friends his way when they come to Italy. This was one of our favorite days ever.

Booked an Amalfi Coast Drive Tour. Not only was our tour breath taking based on the scenery, delicious hilltop lunch at Ristorante Da Constantino in Positano, informative Pompeii tour with Lena but our tour guide, Giovanni, was the best tour guide we’ve ever had. He is prompt, courteous, polite, friendly, delightful and informative. Be sure to ask him to sing! Thanks Giovanni. It was a great way to spend the day. We will come back again and be sure to see you.

Our Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Tour with Gio was AWESOME! Gio showed us some of the most beautiful parts of Italy, while carefully explaining the ins and outs of Italian culture and historical facts. He's the best tour guide we've ever had for any tour-like experience. He knew the best places to stop along the way for pictures and was entertaining the entire tour. He even sang us some Italian classics on our way back. This tour is a must when in Italy.

Lovely Amalfi Tours is so easy to work with. They more than accommodated our trip as we were coming during the off season. But they made it work for us. Giovanni was our friendly, funny and informative guide for 2 whole days and he was EVERYTHING. He made our trip so much more enjoyable. As a Travel Agency Owner, I take pride in any recommendation I offer. The highest compliment that I can offer, is BOOK with them and do it now, but don't forget to get Giovanni if you can!
