Ville di Stabia - Oplonti - Herculaneum (All Day Guide Included)

Your private driver will greet you at your accommodation (or Naples train station), after a brief presentation you will be accompanied to the luxurious vehicle where our staff will offer you every comfort you need. After that they will give you important information about the tour and the places that you are going to visit.

The eruption of the Vesuvius, that destroyed Pompeii, hit the city of Herculaneum too with a huge tsunami of dirt and lava. But unlike Pompeii, the city of Herculaneum preserved wooden buildings and any sort of goods. Therefore for archeological studies is a very important site. Sculptures, paints, vases and so on are now in the “Archeological Museum of Naples” and in the “Antiquarium”.Ancient tradition connected Herculaneum with the name of the Greek hero Heracles, an indication that the city was of Greek origin. There is, however, historical evidence that toward the end of the 6th century BC a primitive nucleus of Oscan-speaking inhabitants came under Greek hegemony there and that in the 4th century BC Herculaneum came under the domination of the Samnites. The city became a Roman municipium in 89 BC, when, having participated in the Social War (“war of the allies” against Rome), it was defeated by Titus Didius, a legate of Lucius Cornelius Sulla.

The eruption of the Vesuvius, that destroyed Pompeii, hit the city of Herculaneum too with a huge tsunami of dirt and lava. Sculptures, paints, vases and so on are now in the “Archeological Museum of Naples” and in the “Antiquarium”.

Our next two stops are small cities where there are archaeological sites as important as the previous one, even if they are less known.

The first one are the “Ville di Stabia”, located in Castellamare di Stabia, the town was once known as Stabia only. It was destroyed by the apocalyptic eruption of the Vesuvio of the 79, which hit Pompeii and herculaneum as well, and on the beach of Stabia the poet Plinio the old found the death due to his whish to look closer to the eruption. The town of Stabia was once known as a place where the “Patrizi” (The Rich romans) used to spend their holidays and where they had built numerous “Villas”. The archeological digging started on 1739, after the casual findings of several items. They are not as famous as the Pompeii or herculaneum ones but not for this reason they are less fascinating. The archaeologists have found not only the villas and other buildings, but even several paintings especially in the “Aquarium Stabium”. Enjoy the beauties of the Villas such as Villa Arianna, Villa San marco or the “Nuove Terme Stabiane”.

The second archeological site that you are going to visit is Oplonti in the city of Torre Annunziata near Naples. Even this city was hit by the famous eruptions. Inside you can find ancient buildings as Villa di Poppea,  named after the second wife of the Roman empereor Nerone, infamously known for being the emperor who spent his time singing while his empire was burning due to a huge fire. The villa is so called because of some items such a vase and some documents that allegedly belonged to the empress.

Take your time and visit this amazing archeological sites to witness the strength of history.

I would like to highly recommend Gio Lovely Tours as an option for those looking for a private excursion other than an excursion provided by a cruise line. If you’re with a group of 4 or 6 or even 8, a comfortable Mercedes touring van is used for these tours. I can attest that over the years, Gio has been the most reliable and friendly tour guide and is very knowledgeable about the area. My family and friends have used this company for over 10 years! The company is well aware of cruise ship departure times and assure you of a timely return to the port to board your ship. We recently spent the day again with Gio after he picked us up at the port in Naples, Italy. What an exciting day touring the Amalfi Coast with stops that we chose to make and some that he recommended for photos opportunities. He even recommends great lunch venues if you’re looking for somewhere nice to eat on the Amalfi Coast. Pricing I feel is competitive so give them a call so they can make your day the most memorable!

My friends and I had a lovely time with our driver Emy in Rome. This was truly the best way to see the city and maximize our time. Emy took us to all the places we wished to see, gave us a great lunch recommendation and took us to a hidden gem we would have never thought to go to. Emy provided wonderful insight and impeccable driving along the way. Lovely Almafi Tours is a must do.

This was hands down the best tour we have ever been on! Communication was quick and easy from the beginning. They were sure to confirm our tour and my requests. We started off getting off on the wrong train stop, as I did not realize there were 2 Naples stops! Giovanni was so kind and flexible and ended up driving further out to come pick us up! He did not have to offer that because it was totally my fault, but I am so grateful that he did! He was very kind and welcoming. The van was comfortable and roomy. Right away Gio made us feel like family. We felt as though we were actually being shown around by a close friend or family member, rather than just a tour guide. He was fun and informative. As soon as he found out my husband's name was Rocky, he played "Eye of the Tiger" and they pretty much hit it off and became BFFs! We started in Pompeii, which was amazing! I highly recommend paying for the private tour guide, otherwise you will not really know what you are looking at. There is not much signage. I felt that you need the guide to explain things so you can fully appreciate where you are and what you are seeing. Next we started towards Amalfi coast and it was breath taking at every turn. We stopped at a lemon farm for a private lunch. What an experience! All the food was so fresh and the service was top notch! We literally felt as if we were having a meal at a relatives house. Just AMAZING! We continued on and Gio dropped us off in Positano for some shopping! After that we headed back to Naples. I was so sad that it was ending. It was our first full day of vacation, and what a way to start off! This company does not give tours, they give experiences! Amazing, unforgettable experiences, with memories to last a lifetime! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this trip so special! Don't hesitate to use them...just GO!

The best hands down! Every time I come back to Amalfi I will call Gio! He and his team are the best!

Had the best day ever with our tour guide Giovanni. We were picked up at the docks and he asked what would we like to see. We asked him what he recommended. We started out on a trip to Ravello. We walked and took pictures of the most beautiful gardens. After a little shopping we headed to Sorento. We stopped at a lemon tree farm and were treated to Italian delicacies. Giovanni was the most entertaining, fun loving young man. I would recommend him 100%.

from Lemoyne

Our day spent in the Napoli area was made more special because Giovanni made sure we had an excellent experience. His energy and sense of humor made our day so much more fun. I liked the company’s upfront pricing and loved where he took us for lunch. Would definitely recommend!
