Caserta (Royal Palace) - Pizza - Naples (Highlights)

The tour will begin after you meet your private driver who will be easily recognizable due to the sign on which will be written your name and our agency logo at the port where your cruise ship will be docked. After a brief presentation your private driver will accompany you at the luxurious vehicle where and will offer you every comfort you need. Furthermore he will give you important information about the travel and the places that you are going to visit.

Caserta, once called “La Torre” (The Tower) due to the Torre of the Acquaviva of the Aragonesi, is one of the most important city of the Campania Region. Its growth starts in the 19th century. This ancient urban development is visible thanks to the historical center called “Caserta Vecchia” (Old Caserta). But the most important part of the city is the “ Royal Palace ”, an amazing building mastership of the artist Luigi Vanvitelli. The Reggia is located in Plaza Carlo III. The building was commissioned to Vanvitelli by Carlo di Borbone, it should have witnessed the power of the Borbone family in Italy and in the same time substite the Palace of Naples due to the political instability of that period. The palace has lived many stories, it was bombed in the 1943 during the World War II, it was the place were the surrender of German troupes in Italy was signed in 1945, and was even the set for a Star Wars movie. Majestic outside, inside are the royal apartments, a very fancy examples of interior design of the ‘800. Well known are the gardens outside called “Giardino Inglese” (English Garden) due to its constructor Andrew Garfner and the typically english layout. Built for the Queen Maria Carolina d’Austria, the gardens have so many different trees, flowers, plants, statues, lakes and the famous “Casino all’Inglese” by Vanvitelli.

All the history is amazing, but after a long stroll in the Reggia is now time for the lunch. Why do not try the famous Neapolitan Pizza? Enjoy the original Pizza in the place it was originally created. Taste a traditional but still delicious margherita or Marinara pizza, or enjoy a more creative one with local toppings.

We will then go to the Naples.Today Naples is culturally and politically speaking one of the most important city of all Italy. Many of the main characteristics that come up to mind when people abroad think of the Italians were born here. The idea of extrovert, singer, dancer of tarantella, player of Mandolino, cunning, Italian who enjoys the sun and the sea are actually from here.

Walking along the “lungomare” you can admire the beauties of the city: the landscapes, the sea, the sun and the flourished villas among which the “Villa comunale” where you can find local aquarium. On Margellina street you will find the “Castello dell’ovo”, a legendary castle situated in the sea linked to the ground through a stone bridge. In this magical place it is said that the poet and magician Virgilius used to spell his casts.

But it is not the only castle, not very far from there there is the “Castel nuovo” or “Maschio Angioino”, a “must” here in Naples. You can visit the apartments inside, the towers and even the dungeons where, according to the legends, there was giant crocodile that used to devour the prisoners locked in the cage. And last but not least the “Castel Sant’Elmo”, on the top of the hill next to the “Certosa di San Martino”. A majestic building, from the roof you can sea the entire city of Naples.

Besides the castles there are hundreds of museums and other buildings that are historically important, such as the “Palazzo Reale” (Royal Palace), house of the Royal family and today a museum where the visitors can admire the fancy apartments, the ballet hall, the paintings and the gardens. Next to the Royal Palace, the National library, giant library that hosts unique and original books signed by the most important writers, philosophers and historians; and the Piazza Pebliscito a extremely wide Plaza, or “Teatro San Carlo” an ancient and beautiful theatre you can both visit it and book a ticket for a play.

Before leaving your private driver please agree upon the time to leave in order to reach your cruise ship on time. During the ride to the port, you can reminisce about your lovely day!

I am NOT one to typically write reviews but this was an experience of a lifetime for my husband and I. As I write this please know that I had the most amazing time with the Amalfi tours and Giovanni. He was so accommodating and showed us parts of Italy that we will never never forget. He was very respectful and knowledgeable. He made the tour fantastic and I would recommend this tour to anyone that is touring the Amalfi Coast. Make sure you ask for Giovanni.

This is an absolute must if you would like to see all that Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi coast have to offer. We were a bit dubious (running out of money) about whether it would be worth the cost, but believe me, it's more than worth it. This is an unforgettable experience that we will cherish forever. We started by being picked up in our private car by Gio, one of the friendliest guys in all of Italy. He not only told us about the scenery, but of course we were interested in Italian politics, history, etc. He knows it all. We quickly became friends with Gio. We went to Pompeii first - a great idea because in the am it was less crowded and less hot. Gio let us pick how much time we would like to spend there. 1.5 hours was perfect for us before we started melting. Then we drove up to the coast, stopping at the most breathtaking sights along the way. Gio pulled over and took pictures for us. Learned all about Italy the whole way. We also hesitated to do the lunch offered by the tour, we figured that per usual we would be taken to some tourist trap and charged a zillion dollars for mediocre food. Not a chance! Gio took us to an amazing local spot (review to follow) where we each got a great bottle of wine, house made and organic limoncello and apple liqueur, and the most amazing and filling meal ever courtsey of Mama. The home made lunch was so tasty, and worth the money (way less than other less excellent meals we had) and you really got to hang with the locals. Not to mention, the view - this is a restaurant at the top of a steep hill, and you can see the entire coast from your seats. Amazing. After lunch, we stopped by Positano and Sorrento, two great towns, on our way back to Naples. We made a great friend, Gio, who we will host and show our town to when he decides to visit the states, and will always remember this tour. Thanks so much to everyone at See Amalfi coast, we can't wait to come and visit again! Arrivederci!

Thank you Giovanni for making our day in Naples so memorable and enjoyable. We appreciated your flexibility in planning our day. We felt like you were a good friend showing us around and your pride and love for your country was infectious. The vehicle was pristine and comfortable for the six of us. We'd love to go back and the first person we would call is you!! We highly recommend your tour company and people may contact us if they have questions.

“An amazing Day in Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano!!” We were part of a group of 8 on a 7 night cruise, and this was probably my favorite port day! Giovanni was our driver and he helped make this day fun and memorable. He got us to Pompeii early so we beat the crowds and could really enjoy our visit. He is a highly skilled driver (not easy on the Amalfi coast Road) and took us to some beautiful lookout places for stunning views/photos of the Amalfi coast and Positano! He arranged a really nice lunch for us in Sorrento, recommended the perfect street for us to pick up last-minute gifts, and he made sure we were on time for the ship. I would definitely recommend Lovely Amalfi Coast Tours and Giovanni, and hope I get the chance to use this service again someday!

In August 2013 we did Tour Pompeii, Positano and Sorrento with Lovely Amalfi coast tours. Our driver Giovanni was very nice and he suggested a wonderful restaurant outside Positano for us to have lunch and that was the best meal we had on our 2 week trip. We had several stops for photos and it was a wonderful day! Thanks Giovanni!

“Great trip with Giovanni” We had a great time in the Amalfi Coast thanks to our wonderful driver, Giovanni. Giovanni is unlike any stereotypical driver that one would encounter in most cities. He is young, fun, engaging university student who seems to know just about everyone in the Amalfi Coast! The entire private tour went very smoothly. We found Giovanni immediately upon arriving in the Sorrento port as he was waiting for us (along with other drivers). Despite that there were only two of us, we got a large van, which is better for sightseeing because you get to sit higher up and consequently have a better view of the coast. We were able to see all the towns and did not feel rushed at all. Another great thing about traveling with Lovely Amalfi Tours is that the prices are significantly more reasonable than its competitors, with no compromise in the quality of service. I hope it continues to stay that way! But most importantly, Giovanni made us feel like he was a friend showing us around his hometown. And of course, this is always the best way to explore a new place.

Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour This was our first time doing an independent outside of our cruise line. What a BLAST! Eight of us went off to Pompeii and Herculaneum with Giovanni (our driver).8 hour tour. This was the highlight of our 19 day Western Mediterranean Cruise. ( Age group) in our 60's. We like ruins and history and the private guide gave us a great descriptive picture of how life was like at the time of Mt Vesuvius' eruption. We all agreed that we enjoyed Herculaneum more because it was more emotional and intimate. We all immediately hit it off with Giovanni, and had lots of laughs. We would highly recommend this company, guide and definitely the driver! We would not hesitate about using their services again. Thanks Giovanni for making our tour so memorable. The Crazy Canadians! We won't forget you.
