Ville di Stabia - Oplonti - Herculaneum (All Day Guide Included)

Your private driver will greet you at your accommodation (or Naples train station), after a brief presentation you will be accompanied to the luxurious vehicle where our staff will offer you every comfort you need. After that they will give you important information about the tour and the places that you are going to visit.

The eruption of the Vesuvius, that destroyed Pompeii, hit the city of Herculaneum too with a huge tsunami of dirt and lava. But unlike Pompeii, the city of Herculaneum preserved wooden buildings and any sort of goods. Therefore for archeological studies is a very important site. Sculptures, paints, vases and so on are now in the “Archeological Museum of Naples” and in the “Antiquarium”.Ancient tradition connected Herculaneum with the name of the Greek hero Heracles, an indication that the city was of Greek origin. There is, however, historical evidence that toward the end of the 6th century BC a primitive nucleus of Oscan-speaking inhabitants came under Greek hegemony there and that in the 4th century BC Herculaneum came under the domination of the Samnites. The city became a Roman municipium in 89 BC, when, having participated in the Social War (“war of the allies” against Rome), it was defeated by Titus Didius, a legate of Lucius Cornelius Sulla.

Our next two stops are small cities where there are archaeological sites as important as the previous one, even if they are less known.

The first one are the “Ville di Stabia”, located in Castellamare di Stabia, the town was once known as Stabia only. It was destroyed by the apocalyptic eruption of the Vesuvio of the 79, which hit Pompeii and herculaneum as well, and on the beach of Stabia the poet Plinio the old found the death due to his whish to look closer to the eruption. The town of Stabia was once known as a place where the “Patrizi” (The Rich romans) used to spend their holidays and where they had built numerous “Villas”. The archeological digging started on 1739, after the casual findings of several items. They are not as famous as the Pompeii or herculaneum ones but not for this reason they are less fascinating. The archaeologists have found not only the villas and other buildings, but even several paintings especially in the “Aquarium Stabium”. Enjoy the beauties of the Villas such as Villa Arianna, Villa San marco or the “Nuove Terme Stabiane”.

The second archeological site that you are going to visit is Oplonti in the city of Torre Annunziata near Naples. Even this city was hit by the famous eruptions. Inside you can find ancient buildings as Villa di Poppea,  named after the second wife of the Roman empereor Nerone, infamously known for being the emperor who spent his time singing while his empire was burning due to a huge fire. The villa is so called because of some items such a vase and some documents that allegedly belonged to the empress.

Take your time and visit this amazing archeological sites to witness the strength of history.

I am NOT one to typically write reviews but this was an experience of a lifetime for my husband and I. As I write this please know that I had the most amazing time with the Amalfi tours and Giovanni. He was so accommodating and showed us parts of Italy that we will never never forget. He was very respectful and knowledgeable. He made the tour fantastic and I would recommend this tour to anyone that is touring the Amalfi Coast. Make sure you ask for Giovanni.

This is an absolute must if you would like to see all that Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi coast have to offer. We were a bit dubious (running out of money) about whether it would be worth the cost, but believe me, it's more than worth it. This is an unforgettable experience that we will cherish forever. We started by being picked up in our private car by Gio, one of the friendliest guys in all of Italy. He not only told us about the scenery, but of course we were interested in Italian politics, history, etc. He knows it all. We quickly became friends with Gio. We went to Pompeii first - a great idea because in the am it was less crowded and less hot. Gio let us pick how much time we would like to spend there. 1.5 hours was perfect for us before we started melting. Then we drove up to the coast, stopping at the most breathtaking sights along the way. Gio pulled over and took pictures for us. Learned all about Italy the whole way. We also hesitated to do the lunch offered by the tour, we figured that per usual we would be taken to some tourist trap and charged a zillion dollars for mediocre food. Not a chance! Gio took us to an amazing local spot (review to follow) where we each got a great bottle of wine, house made and organic limoncello and apple liqueur, and the most amazing and filling meal ever courtsey of Mama. The home made lunch was so tasty, and worth the money (way less than other less excellent meals we had) and you really got to hang with the locals. Not to mention, the view - this is a restaurant at the top of a steep hill, and you can see the entire coast from your seats. Amazing. After lunch, we stopped by Positano and Sorrento, two great towns, on our way back to Naples. We made a great friend, Gio, who we will host and show our town to when he decides to visit the states, and will always remember this tour. Thanks so much to everyone at See Amalfi coast, we can't wait to come and visit again! Arrivederci!

Thank you Giovanni for making our day in Naples so memorable and enjoyable. We appreciated your flexibility in planning our day. We felt like you were a good friend showing us around and your pride and love for your country was infectious. The vehicle was pristine and comfortable for the six of us. We'd love to go back and the first person we would call is you!! We highly recommend your tour company and people may contact us if they have questions.

“An amazing Day in Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano!!” We were part of a group of 8 on a 7 night cruise, and this was probably my favorite port day! Giovanni was our driver and he helped make this day fun and memorable. He got us to Pompeii early so we beat the crowds and could really enjoy our visit. He is a highly skilled driver (not easy on the Amalfi coast Road) and took us to some beautiful lookout places for stunning views/photos of the Amalfi coast and Positano! He arranged a really nice lunch for us in Sorrento, recommended the perfect street for us to pick up last-minute gifts, and he made sure we were on time for the ship. I would definitely recommend Lovely Amalfi Coast Tours and Giovanni, and hope I get the chance to use this service again someday!

In August 2013 we did Tour Pompeii, Positano and Sorrento with Lovely Amalfi coast tours. Our driver Giovanni was very nice and he suggested a wonderful restaurant outside Positano for us to have lunch and that was the best meal we had on our 2 week trip. We had several stops for photos and it was a wonderful day! Thanks Giovanni!

“Great trip with Giovanni” We had a great time in the Amalfi Coast thanks to our wonderful driver, Giovanni. Giovanni is unlike any stereotypical driver that one would encounter in most cities. He is young, fun, engaging university student who seems to know just about everyone in the Amalfi Coast! The entire private tour went very smoothly. We found Giovanni immediately upon arriving in the Sorrento port as he was waiting for us (along with other drivers). Despite that there were only two of us, we got a large van, which is better for sightseeing because you get to sit higher up and consequently have a better view of the coast. We were able to see all the towns and did not feel rushed at all. Another great thing about traveling with Lovely Amalfi Tours is that the prices are significantly more reasonable than its competitors, with no compromise in the quality of service. I hope it continues to stay that way! But most importantly, Giovanni made us feel like he was a friend showing us around his hometown. And of course, this is always the best way to explore a new place.

Pompeii and Herculaneum Private Tour This was our first time doing an independent outside of our cruise line. What a BLAST! Eight of us went off to Pompeii and Herculaneum with Giovanni (our driver).8 hour tour. This was the highlight of our 19 day Western Mediterranean Cruise. ( Age group) in our 60's. We like ruins and history and the private guide gave us a great descriptive picture of how life was like at the time of Mt Vesuvius' eruption. We all agreed that we enjoyed Herculaneum more because it was more emotional and intimate. We all immediately hit it off with Giovanni, and had lots of laughs. We would highly recommend this company, guide and definitely the driver! We would not hesitate about using their services again. Thanks Giovanni for making our tour so memorable. The Crazy Canadians! We won't forget you.
